FLAMENCO MADRID
“Flamenco was born in Spain, in Andalusia, and crossed borders to reach the entire world, and anyone with sensitivity can understand and enjoy it. Madrid has always lived flamenco intensely. The art of chanting has imbued its festivals, its theaters, its tablaos, its taverns and bars since the middle of the 19th century.
Since then, Madrid has played host to the elite of flamenco and has even given birth to its own great flamenco performers. Today, most of the flamenco activity in Spain takes place in Madrid, which has become the capital of flamenco. So you will have to become familiar with terms like duende, ángel, tablao, quejío, jondura…” (adapted from a text by Susana Navalón).
