Program OverviewThe University Program at TANDEM, Escuela Internacional is designed for those university students, primarily juniors, who have already taken some Spanish courses at their high school or university and wish to improve their skills and broaden their linguistic and cultural knowledge through an academic experience abroad.
At the same time, these students are looking to reinforce their skills in a relaxed and international atmosphere, one perfectly designed to enhance communicative and intercultural learning, where each student is given the personal attention and care crucial to any study abroad program. TANDEM offers intensive language-only courses for those students who have not yet studied enough Spanish, are not yet juniors or simply do not have the level of Spanish required to enroll in the elective courses. These intensive courses allow the student to receive university credit for language and, at the same time, offer them daily, effective training in Spanish. The Academic Semester is four months long, and the students during this time must be enrolled in five courses. The program normally consists of three language classes and two electives. Students receive 16 credits for the five courses, in accordance with the American university system. The students also participate in an after school cultural program throughout the semester which allows them to take part in and learn about life and culture in Spain from a non-academic standpoint. From the first week until the end of the semester, all students will take part in at least two linguistic exchanges with a “TANDEM partner”. These exchanges encourage and facilitate the student’s comprehension as well as increase vocabulary while providing the opportunity to practice conversation with a native speaker. |
